“Wiki That”

posted by ctanner on June 08, 2009  • (0) Comments

To pay hommage to the great Andy Milonakis and his blazing witticism "Let Me Twitter That" I write this blog. Dealing with a rowdy bunch of young tech genuises everyday is a very rewarding job (like parenting). Sometimes great and sometimes infuriating. Like Einstein who didn't graduate high school but ended up leaving a monumental contribution to what we know as statistical mechanics, young techies can sometimes be quite stubborn in their brilliance. Trying to integrate this into everyday operations and maintain business continuity is challenging. Great projects can be deployed and processes can be automated to the tee. There can be a script written that will somehow manage to tie my shoes before the guys hand things off to the night shift, but what happens when my shoe comes untied? Where the hell is Fred...because Ted is going to have to reverse engineer this damn script for 5 hours, and by then I could buy a new pair of shoes. You get my drift.

An engineer is only as good as his documentation. Training young geniuses to remember that this must become part of their work flow just as the air they breath can be challenging but so very rewarding. If there is anything that I can stress to young Sys Admins out there, "WIKI THAT". You don't want the shoe example to be an analogy for customers.
